Citrus County Supervisor of Elections
Vote In Honor of a Vet Program
The Vote in Honor of a Vet program honors the sacrifice members of the United States Armed Forces
make to protect Americans’ right to vote. The objective of the program is to encourage voter
participation among our young adult population by sharing the biographies, contributions, and words of
encouragement from Citrus County veterans or their families.
This program highlights the importance of registering and voting by providing first-hand accounts of the
sacrifices made and the responsibilities of preserving our democracy. By exercising our right to vote, we
show veterans the respect they deserve for protecting our rights and country.
Participation in this program by Citrus County veterans and their families will make registering and
voting a more personal experience for our young adults. Additionally, you will be helping them
understand the important correlation between our veterans’ sacrifices and their right to register and vote.
Service to our country stands as an example that we must take responsibility for our rights seriously and
we must be willing to fight to defend them. Our national statistics show that young adults 18-24
historically have the lowest level of participation in the election process. Our goal is to improve these
numbers in Citrus County.
To participate in the program, any veteran, or their family can complete a Veteran Biography Form and, if
available, include a picture of the veteran in uniform. Please send the completed form to:
Citrus County Supervisor of Elections Office
Attn: Vote in Honor of a Vet Program
P.O. Box 1870
Lecanto, FL 34460-1870
Once a completed biography form is received, it will be delivered to a high school student or young adult,
who is eligible to vote, along with a voter registration application so they may register to vote in the
veteran’s honor. Also, the veterans’ picture will be displayed on our Vote in Honor of a Vet wall at the
SOE Office. This program is part of the Supervisor of Elections office’s on-going voter education
program. The more biography forms we receive, the higher number of young people we can reach and
the more inspiring the project becomes.
Our young adults are the leaders of tomorrow. Therefore, it is essential that we do all we can to educate
them about the importance of having their voices heard through the election process. Participation and
support of this program by veterans and their family’s will allow us to connect with our young adults in a
more personal way. If you have any questions about this program, please contact Roger Dixson at (352)
