As yesterday's defenders of freedom, we want to welcome today's military service members into our ranks to become part of our elite group. Our common bond is the battlefield, whether it is service in the Persian Gulf, Korea, Kosovo, the war on terrorism or peace-keeping expeditionary campaigns. Your courage and sacrifice have made a difference in preserving and defending world peace.
VFW Post 4864 was chartered on April 1,1982 in Citrus Springs, Florida, and it's namesake is Edward W. Penno. Penno was born in 1923, and passed away in 1966. He was in the US Marine Corps during World War II, and was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Theater from 1943-1946. His brother, Adolph Penno, was a life member of the VFW, and he sponsored the Post's namesake change.

In keeping with the VFW's commitment to student veterans' success, every year the VFW teams up with Student Veterans of America (SVA) to host the VFW-SVA Legislative Fellowship program, providing 10 exemplary VFW members who are student veterans the opportunity to make their voices heard on Capitol Hill and in their community.
